The Box

"Think outside the box."

I’ve heard this so many times in so many scenarios - sometimes not even relevant to the situation - that it makes me cringe when said even in close proximity to me. 

How do we truly know that we’re thinking outside the box?

Seems people are either not interested in knowing what their fellow peers are doing or they don’t know who their fellow peers even are! Which is all the more worrying in my opinion. 

We should take the time to appreciate the work around us, even if it is a product of our most bitter competitor - give credit where it is due. Check out publications in which there is an array of fantastic work being done by some very talented people [designers/teams] who knows, maybe it’ll spark something in your minds and begin the creation of something even more amazing! 

Like my university tutor would say “chew up a piece of work, and spit it out as your own” - Not plagiarism, inspiration :)

So to think out side the box, we must first look inside the box. So here’s me pledging to take a peak in

Jessica Hische is a letterer, illustrator, and self-described “avid internetter”. After graduating with a degree in Graphic and Interactive Design from Tyler School of Art, she worked for Headcase Design in Philadelphia before taking a position as Senior Designer at Louise Fili Ltd. After two and a half years, Jessica left to further her freelance career and embark on several fun personal projects. Jessica began Daily Drop Cap, a project in which every day she created a new illustrative letter, working through the alphabet a total of twelve times. At its peak, the site had more than 100,000 visitors per month. Uncommon’s collection features Jessica’s “2nd Alphabet”.
